IMHO there is no "upscale" lodging available in SSA. You can drop one or two stars from all "official" ratings to get a western equivalent.

The area of Salvador da Bahia is very large so you really need to look into what your plans are. Going to Costa do Sauípe, Morro de São Paulo, Ilha de Itaparica etc?
