Volunteering my seat. (VDB on an award ticket)

This is mostly a question for SWABrian. But I would love to hear from anyone else as well. I am in San Diego right now flying back to Houston. I volunteered to give up my seat for $200 plus the one way fare. The normal policy. I am on a Rapid Reward ticket. So Southwest is giving me 0 dollars for the Rapid Reward ticket. Again the normal policy (though I don't agree w/ this part of the policy). But the real issue I have is this. If I was on a paid ticket and not a free ticket, I would be receiving my one way fare back in a voucher. So more or less I would be flying back to Houston for free. How come when you are flying on a free ticket, Southwest will not give you the one way Rapid Reward ticket back to you to use at a future date? I still have to use the Rapid Reward ticket to get back to Houston.

Could u please clarify why ur policy on this is the way it is.

Thanks for your time.
