Bag freaks unite. I get to join, too. Let’s see, in sets:
TravelPro WalkAbout from about 1999, in red: 26-in, 22-in, 20-in duffel, tote
Hartmann really old (1960s?), belonged to my grandmother and I only use it for car trips as it’s still in pristine condition, black/white tweed with black leather trims: 25-in
Hartmann bought about 1990 to coordinate with grandmother’s bag, in black: 22-inch non-wheeled carry-on and tote
Hartmann khaki nylon with blue vinyl trim bought in about 1978 in my non-rev days: 20 in non-wheeled and tote
Skyway grey tweed, bought about 2001: 25-in roller, 22-in roller, tote, used to have a 28-inch rolling duffel but daughter ruined it on a Paris trip a few years ago
Columbia brown cordura, bought about 2002: 24-in wheeled duffel, 18-in and 16-in. “doctor’s bag” widemouth totes
Swissgear Zurich, my newest set from Target, bought in 2008: 25-in roller (recently DOA, see note below), 17-inch roller perfect as carry-on for overseas trips
Wenger from Costco, about 2003: rolling tote & laptop briefcase to match
Lands End black garment bag, great for road trips, vintage 1988
Too many old briefcases to count, plus husband’s 2000 Under Armour duffel, 1999 big Atlantic hardside and 2002 Costco 22-in roller
That’s about 23, not counting all the old briefcases. I have to be careful my husband doesn’t catch me trolling the ebags and REI websites for more items, I cannot help myself. Southwest ripped one of the four wheels right off the new Zurich bag from Target a couple of weeks ago. I’m reluctant to replace it with the same bag, even though I really like the set. Those bags with four wheels are nice to roll (like inside an elevator) but too many wheels make it too easy for the airlines to ruin them.
I could not begin to count all the Eagle Creek totes, packing cubes, and folders we have, also some cubes from Columbia and a Tumi tote. And I save all clear plastic zipped little cases that sheets and such come in, they’re great for packing scarves and unmentionables. I also use the 2-gal. ziplocs a lot.
We’re currently designing a new house and I’m going to have one closet just for luggage. I hope it’s big enough... We’re also going to have a special “packing area” in the master suite, an area between the bathroom and closet specifically for folding clothing, with a luggage rack niche.
It’s so good to know I’m not alone in the “too much luggage” league.
