and since they will not gate-check your only option is to get on early and make sure that you find a place to store the bag(s). At GSO there is an early flight to CLT using this aircraft and often people in the first few rows find themselves going to mid-plane to get their bags in the overhead - the first row folks have to put everything overhead and the small bins fill up quickly.
