Tonight, I was told by the travel center that going over by even $0.01 will cost me 5,000 points (for each $50 over the max).
Remember though that they ask you to pay the 7.5% excise tax, so your $1,800 might come in lower than that after they subract the 7.5%, which you are expected to pay out-of-pocket.
