It now turns out that after yet more disagreeable emails that they will give a refund - although it is done in some disingenuous terms:

As you have already seen our customer support supervisor has already issued you your refund. Also, you should note that not only were you notified 30 days before the renewal, but we sent out an email to all subscribers on January 5th, the day we lost the UA A/U info, telling everyone about that fact. You apparently didn't think it was a problem enough to cancel your renewal then, so why would it all of a sudden be a problem now?
We're sorry for the confusion. The representitive who you were conversing with was looking at the wrong renewal date for your account. We see that your account only renewed at the beginning of February, not in January.
Even though you still had almost a full month to cancel your account before it renewed since the loss of the UA information (as it has on the same date every year for the last 4 years). We will issue you a refund.
