I don't think there's any technical reason for not being able to do it (just as there really shouldn't be any reason not to do date/time changes to *A awards); United has just instituted a rule on it that's (imho) customer-unfriendly.

Finally someone had pointed out that is what suppose to be. That is what I read from this board and those who wrote trip reports on award flights a while ago, I know more than a few people been able to do that or I wouldn't try to spend the time to explain to that UA lady in HKG.
