I think to be more specific, waitlisting is allowed on UA flights only if it's an all UA itinerary. If there are *A flights involved, you can't even waitlist on the UA segments.
The question is if on a *A itinerary, once all the *A flights are flown and there are only UA flights remaining, could one then waitlist to a higher cabin, or to a different date ?
