The Renaissance is located closer to a Metro, so if you're in town to explore the city that's the better location. The only way getting an upgrade on the weekend at the Reanaissance would be hard is if there is a covention going on.

I work next door to the M street location and it's a business traveler heavy location, so staying on a weekend would allow you to get upgraded relatively easily.
