I think the value of the Safety Video is that you can explain and demonstrate key points, that CAN NOT be shown during a Live demo. Even the old America West video (look for it on You Tube) actually showed the evacuation slides inflating and the passengers sliding down. The USAirways only shows a static computer graphic.

The part of about assessing the situation via the window, IMHO, is lost in the safety instructions. Granted it's on the safety card, but I don't think explained during the demo. I'm hoping that a "lesson learned" might be to emphasize this point.
