I think you're underestimating the scale of the problem. All the numbers suggest this is a struggle for survival, with ALL the airlines needing to lose a big chunk of their cost base. They can do this by making staff redundant or by trimming salaries & benefits but keeping most of the people employed. Or they can choose some combination of the options. There's no magic wand or pool of money BA can draw on, so which route would you prefer?
