Actually the redemption at half miles applies when the passenger is under 12. So an adult can earn and then redeem from their account for kid tickets at half the miles. Pretty good deal. Any other airlines doing this?
AY has the JuniorPlus program where you can enroll kids older than 2 years. They enjoy an 50% discount for awards, sadly only on AY (plus assorted partners) metal but not on OneWorld awards. And yes, the parents (or I think anybody?) can use their miles for getting seats on this discount, the kid doesn't necessary need to have any miles in the account.
