I also failed to redeem a FFN at Park Hyatt Shanghai this weekend. Even when I told the CS agent I would rather use nearly 10K points to let the property unlock their award inventory for me, my request was rejected.
Was told that the Passport Plus Award is not applicable to FFN award.
I would like to say the award inventory control makes GP less attractive.
They do have rooms available for sale. From the standard room to suite.
I don't believe they could achieve 100% occupancy this weekend. Why not just give me a room? I would stay on Valetine's Day. So I would possibly spend a decent amt. of $ for F&B at their property if they would offer a room to me.

Points and free night awards have NO value unless they are redeemed.
If we could not redeem awards at our will most of the time(of course, exception is allowed for some extreme situation), why should we be LOYALLY staying at Hyatt properties to accumulate points or FFNs?
