If you have travel insurance that covers luggage damage, definitely go for it - you'll have the peace of mind knowing that if they mis-handle it, it's likely to be covered as long as you've packed it sensibly. Original boxes + packing material should be OK - they've survived being shipped that way to you/shop etc! However, if you do have a spare suitcase, then by all means wrap the whole thing (i.e. LCD in its box + packing) in bubble wrap and put it snugly into a suitcase, making sure it doesn't rattle within it.

I've carried my LCD monitors as checked baggage a few times in their original box and packing and they survived without a problem.
