I've travelled several times with my monitor in my checked luggage. I used to just wrap it in several towels and then bury it in between layers of clothes. TSA always ended up opening my case to investigate though after the X-Ray. They aren't your main concern for theft anyhow. I'd suggest putting the original packaging inside luggage though. The Apple logo on the box might be too tempting for someone else handling your baggage to "lose" it.
