I have an upcoming connection at IAH and plan to pick up a piece of baggage there to be checked to my final destination. The FAQ says this is legal, but given the rash of people denied boarding at the gate >15 min prior to departure, the rules don't provide as much comfort as they once did

Has anyone succeeded in checking additional baggage at a connecting airport? The OP didn't post about his/her success or failure. People often complain, so perhaps I can assume the OP succeeded.
