I think we as a community should trust OP and assume that the process of this 'payment' verification (or 'embarrassing' situation) took much more than 2 minutes - say 15 to 20 minutes. At some hotels, these verification process can be an insulting process (as the OP indicated... makes the guest feeling being treated as if he were a thief) and may take a lot of time (asking around, typing into computer and checking, calling managers, etc.).

But then again, all of this could have been solved very quickly if OP had ran to the car and grabbed his receipt, which he received few moments after check-out. So it also seem to indicate, from OP's statement, that he was rushed to catch the train... (i.e. he was already cutting his time short). In this regard, I think many are feeling apathetic towards OP's rather sarcastic claim that 500 SPG point wasn't good enough for him.

In the end, OP was "only" two hours behind his schedule (not sure if he had a meeting but he would have said about the consequences of the delay if it was as big as missing a meeting). So, 500 SPG point is more than enough. If OP's train ticket was lost due to this, there are several evidence as to OP could have left earlier from the hotel, there is no reason for the OP to expect hotel to compensate for this either.

Lastly, there are some places where check-out experience is quite painful... especially places like Lesotho... I was staying at two of the only international class hotels in Maseru last December... and the check-out at both of these hotels (Lesotho Sun and Maseru Sun - both owned by same group) were the most painful experience ever. It took almost 45-50 minutes to finish my credit card transaction... as the connectivity was not so good... they were trying many times... and I had several issues with the charges made to my account, which they refused to correct. If I had to go there again (for work), I will make sure to settle all my bills the night before... to avoid these issues.
