Same logic applies to EVA if you buy Economy. Their 747s have premium economy, although they don't sell it for this route - so you can get this if you're lucky. The service will be the same and the food is awful. Good chance to try their seat if you're thinking of flying EVA long haul.
Just check out the prices... early morning ex-TPE tend to be expensive so that Taiwanese can connect in HKG for onward flights. The TG departure can be very cheap and used to be popular (still is?) for expat visa-runners.
