Whether you missed the train or not to me is pretty irrelevant I would be pretty pissed if some hotel employee stopped me from leaving and accused me of not paying the bill.
Didnt they take an imprint or whatever of your card just in case of such eventuallities? Being asked to produce a bill only adds insult to injury... its their problem if the computer is down.
From where I sit 500 points are peanuts I would not be satisfied with less than 5000

P.S. perhaps the OP couched the question incorrectly, by mentioning the train ....but the fact that he missed it by two minutes is not the point if the hotel front desk was more competent the topic would be moot... in any event I would be more pissed by the way the delay was handled
