Forced return to Front Desk resulting in missed train - Is 500 starpoints enough?

I wanted to share details of the following incident, which took place in early January at the Le Meridien Pyramids in Giza, Egypt. The facts are:

➢ At checkout, I paid my account and received a copy of my bill.

➢ I then left the front desk and entered my car, and just as the car was pulling from the curb, one of the bellmen stopped the car and told me that there was a problem with my bill and I “must,” return with him to the front desk to have it resolved.

➢ I returned to the front desk and was accused of attempting to depart without paying my bill. I explained that I had paid the bill only to be told that I should produce a copy of the bill as proof of payment

➢ It was not possible to produce the bill as it was the car

➢ Fortunately, I was able to identify the front desk clerk who had checked me and he certified that I had paid the bill. There was no apology, just a statement that the “computer was down”.

➢ As I was short on time I did not stop to discuss the incident at that time.
➢ Unfortunately the delay caused me to miss my transportation to Alexandria.

When I returned to the hotel a few days later I complained to the Guest Supervisor who investigate the incident, and later she offered me a complimentary dinner in the hotel’s restaurant as compensation.

I had already made prior arrangements for dinner with my wife, so I declined the offer of dinner and asked that the hotel credit me with an equivalent number of starpoints as compensation. This was agreed. After returning home I found that the hotel had posted a generous 500 starpoints as compensation for an incident which not only embarrassed me but caused me to leave the hotel feeling like a thief who had been caught stealing the towels.

Apart from this unfortunate incident, the hotel treated me well. They provided excellent recognition of my elite status and I received excellent upgrades.

I have now asked the hotel to reconsider the compensation.

Are there any guesses/estimates as to what the outcome will/should be?
