I know the feeling. My handwriting was always pretty poor and worse still after using a computer for so long. I can write far more legibly with a fountain pen but.... I'm cack handed and this produces blue hands (and stains on the paper) with most inks (though the Parker quick dry stuff seems to work quite well).
