Hi folks. I am looking for some friendly advice. I am a CO Plat and don't often fly NWA. Yesterday, I bought a refundable Y fare on NWA.com (the receipt states fare basis code YO - the non penalty Y fare) and as a Skyteam plat, I called NWA to request a confirmed upgrade at time of purchase. The first person I spoke to said that immediate upgrade is not possible for a Y fare and that I would need to wait until 5 days before the flight or use miles. I called back later and was told that yes, the confirmed upgrade at time of purchase applies for this fare class, and yes, there are seats up front, but that this will be processed automatically and can take up to two days to go through the system. Does an upgrade 'at time of purchase' take this long to filter through the system? I was told the system does recognize my Plat status, I do have access to preferred seating in coach, so thats not an issue. Can anyone shed some light for me on this process?
