1) Do I need to provide detailed specifics, or is a short, positive letter, describing their characteristics (friendly, accomidating, hard working etc) good enough?

2) Whats the best method of sending it?

3) Should I expect a response, or should I just assume the FAs/GA and/or their supervisor have received the letter?
