I've seen it happen before. I believe EWR-SFO is the longest transcon in the system. Add some headwinds, expected weather in SFO, and a longer-than-normal flight plan maybe to go around something, and the flight plan can be for close to 7 hours. Throw in some checked bags and cargo, and you're really pushing it on a 737.
