As far as I'm concerned there is not one American airline worth a 1 hr flight much less a 12-14 hour flight. They all are cattle cars and none of them have management worth a damn. I've flown most of them, over the years, to say "enough is enough". IMO, the worst Asian airline is 100% better than the best American airline.
A while back I did aviation consulting work, for an American carrier, with Thai International in Bangkok. Thai's maintenance was incomparable. Dedicated maintenance personnel who took pride in their work and who really knew what they were doing. I have personally witnessed Thai airframe mechanics staying hours past their knockoff time to insure that what they were working on was safetly completed or fixed. And all with no extra pay. So much for questions about Asian airlines safety.
I'm flying Korean, the beginning of March, Atlanta to Bangkok. One of only a couple of Asian airlines I have not yet flown with. I expect it to be similar to other Asian airlines. Exceptional comfort, service, and cleanliness. They also manage to have beautiful FAs who are customer oriented and very well trained in safety.
