A natural solution would be figure out a way to spend more time out west, perhaps at the expense of axing Shanghai.

Or just add time overall to the itin. Actually an alternative I would propose would be to axe HKG (unless you're flying into or out of it) and save it for another time. I live here and its a fantastic city, but assuming you're a US/EU citizen, you don't need a visa to visit here and can do so whenever you'd like to...
