What is reasonable in this case?

I have an award ticket (I am using a bump cert) for LAX-MBS that I ticketed back in Feb. US pulled out of MBS back in Sept. I was offered protection on the combo of US & UA. The agent last week changed my itinerary to my satisfaction. Now the Chairman's desk called & said I have to fly into LAN or GRR. The problem is that I would have to pay for a week's car rental where I could be picked up at MBS.

My issue is that they offered to protect me on a previous itinerary to MBS in Sept & they gave me my alternate flights. Now they want to undo what they did. I am rethinking about my loyality given what just occurred.

What is reasonable on my part? Should I insist that they keep what they offered to me in the first place? I dislike that they changed things because I am an a free ticket. That was the reason given. Thank you for your replies.

An update: They are willing to get me to MBS but I have to put up with a double connection through PIT & ORD both ways.

Edited to add update.
