Well I admit that I was sufficiently peeved by this "sale" that I decided to officially complain. IMHO the actions of AC management need to be checked. AC is a good airline and for the most part, the people that work there are decent workers. But there seems to be a perception higher up in AC that they can get away with things; I'm talking about fuel surcharges and other nonsense thinly called "taxes", the whittling away of benefits for E & SE (I doubt Aeroplan is doing the whittling away independently of AC), the "sale" which didn't really put anything on sale ...
Enough I say!
So rather than just whining here (which kind of makes me feel better but ultimately accomplishes nothing) I decided to do something else. I complained to the Competition Bureau. Why the Competition Bureau? Because under the Competition Act:
... the general provision prohibits all materially false or misleading representations. Other provisions specifically prohibit ... false or misleading ordinary selling price representations ...
In my complaint, I highlighted 2 dummy bookings YYZ - YVR return. Booking 1 was in Feb and the second was in March. Both were for the same mid-month dates but the booking that was "on sale" came to about $30 less a.i.
Yesterday the Competition Bureau emailed me indicating that they think the complaint has merit and will be investigated. I'll post general updates if I get any.
