As for the yanking the earlier post reported: could that have been a microburst? I realize our radar is pretty good at spotting these, but who knows in Indonesia.
As for safety and turbulence: even if it doesn´t bring the plane down, once you´ve hit a good bout, you´ll know why you should keep your seatbelt on during the flight!
Indonesian radars probably isn't good enough to track microbursts.. If it's good, why did we hit it in the first place?
Regarding the seatbelt, it's true! Since that small incident, I've always fastened my seat belts whenever I can.. especially when flying in Indonesia..
I guess it's a matter of perspective when regarding light, mild, or severe in turbulence.. In most of my experiences, I'd always consider it mild, while 'mild' on some people might constitute as 'severe' for me.. I'm so afraid of turbulence yet I love flying.. Weird..
