Here is my attempt to capture a hummingbird.

Hummingbird

Details:

Nikon D40 plus Nikkor 18-200mm VR
Shutter speed: 1/10 sec
Focal length: 200mm (300mm effective)
Aperture: f/5.7
ISO=1600
Time=7:30PM

You can see the Nikkor VR is doing it's job. The relatively low pixel density of the D40 work well even at high ISO setting. The Nikon focus mechanism worked well enough that it did not get confused by the surrounding stalks. That little bird was moving so fast that this is the only decent shot I got.
