The airport taxis quote really high rates. You could try
www.carzonrent.com (hertz affiliate in India) or avis.co.in (which bills your card as "Mercury Travels", its local affiliates name, so watch for that when you see your next statement) - their rates offered online are far cheaper than their rates they quote when you call them.
Or take a train as the man says.

I would rather take a taxi or the first flight in the morning to get there but not the train.
