ATC - you lost thrust in both engines? You want Runway 13?
Capt. Sully - UNABLE.
ATC- Ok.......give me left traffic to Runway 31 then.
Sully - UNABLE.
ATC- You want Runway 4? Give me left traffic to Runway 4.
He is then offered Runway 1 at Teterboro. Minding that he is flying south with no engines and Runway 1 (heading north) would require a downwind leg and a turn back to the north against the wind on a glide. Pretty unlikely from 3,000 feet or so.
Whatever happened to "cleared to land any available runway" in a emergency? Wasting the mans time picking out runways while he has no engines and is gliding down toward the NYC? I commend the calm professional tone in use by all.....but come on.
Sounded like Capt. Sully was about to give them the "We are going in the $#*%$ Hudson dumb$$$.
