I am only familiar with United. For a reservation already booked at a lower status level need to have reservations delete the FF number and re-enter it into the reservation for the new status to appear. At United there is also about a 3 day delay for the new status to be available to reservations after it shows up on Mileage Plus. I would assume most other airlines are similar.
