I don't think I would even consider checking something like this in as hold luggage. Think of the potential for things to damage it. Would the box survive 32kg bags dropping on top of it? What if it gets jammed on a conveyor belt? etc

I assume you've paid a fair amount for this in the first place, so why not fork out a little bit more and get a properly insured courier delivery. The auction house will probably be able to advise on the best service to use.
