If you did a dimple search of either the Amex forum, or the Car Rental forum, you would see that since this thread went dormant (1999!), there have been a multitude of more recent threads discussing this exact subject, with your points discussed in excruciating detail.

From the tone of your discussion, it doesn't appear that you're new to FT, even though you just registered a new user name for this very discussion.
