All in all, kudos to their proactive approach. They offered us lunch vouchers for 10 Euros each, though the LH check in agent said originally 25, so I don't know why the discrepancy.
You were rebooked from a poor USAir to a nice LH direct flight (probably in Y which gives you great miles). You left 3,5 hours later and arrived 2 hours earlier... ok you missed 7 hours in a empty USAir middle row but saved 5,5 hours. PHL-LAX would have been packed for sure. You shouldn´t be dissapointed how it went. I was on the flight PHL-MUC that turned around after 3 hours and went back to PHL because of "oilproblem on right engine". I arrived 24 hours later in MUC which WAS dissapointing.
