I faced the same dilemma recently, and I chose to stay in the CBD rather than at the airport.
While it would have been nice to roll out of bed and into the terminal, it's so much easier to enjoy the city if you stay in the CBD. Hotel prices were the same for me, so the only additional cost was the US$20 early morning taxi ride to Changi.
