Since Royal Ambassador status is a subset of the Ambassador programme, I believe that you can argue that the hotel has no choice but to provide you with a minimum 1-category room upgrade, even if you book a suite or club room.

Not at the IC Hong Kong as shown below from an e-mail sent regarding my booking last year:

Dear Dave S&V

In order to get an Executive Suite, you need to book an Executive Suite because up to Junior Suite, we do not give any upgrades.
