In the summer of 2001 when I flew Swissair in J between YUL and ZRH they gave me a 1kg of chocolate as a birthday thank you. Had a note with all the crew's signatures and I was invited up to the flight deck for a good hour.
Unfortunately only a few weeks later 9/11 struck and Swissair went bankrupt.
Somehow I always see SR as the example which all the other airlines need to look up to in terms of how customer's were treated. AF/KL are so far away from what SR provided that it isn't even funny.
