Mororsportsqueen, firstly welcome to FlyerTalk, I hope you enjoy your stay.
I will assume your email was directed at my opening comment, so I must apologise but also explain.
Firstly, the basis of my post was from the linked article. There is no reference to your statements in relation to cost being doubled, being told seats would be together or the personal circumstances around her obesity. Yes it is fair to assume that if you are going to buy two seats for yourself for comfort reasons then they probably should be together.
Secondly, in my experience economy seating in JQ, QF or DJ is mainly the same in seat pitch and width, give or take an inch in relation to specific aircraft. JQ's fleet is as generous as any in relation to space in Y. If she was a normal J traveller then CNS - OOL is never going to offer that. That aside, the cost of a second seat would be imaterial and from experience domestic J a 160kg individual would still have comfort issues.
Thirdly, you must understand that this is a forum where people gather to share experiences both positive and negative, glowing and nightmarish and opinions and beliefs. I have found these opinions, suggestions and ideas very helpful in getting better experiences out of Qantas since I joined and value this forum greatly as such.
Finally, I do not judge people at all, nor do I believe that human nature is to do so without prior evidence so with all my inner strength I will not take offence to that innuendo.
Therefore, in not in any way picking on this poor lass, or others of her affliction, my comments in relation to being willing to complain if a 160kg person, no matter the circumstance that led to her size, disrupted the comfort of my flight that I paid for, particularly if we had paid the same fare remain. Additionally, as stated, if the obese, again no matter the circumstance of their weight can get a 2-4-1 deal to improve comfort then so should the other pax travelling on the same fare cost. that is not in any way discriminative.
FWIW I am 6ft and 82kg, not overweight or underweight by any comparrison, however value my personal space and the only person I willingly invite in for 4 hour periods is my wife. Complete strangers invading it does have an impact on me, and one I battle with weekly on my flights.
Hope this clears up my position, and that you understand a little more where I am coming from as a result.
