Emirates Airline announced on Tuesday that maintenance checks and staff training could affect its A380 services to New York just six months after the route was first launched

The Dubai airline told Arabian Business that flights to the US city may be subject to "schedule changes" from Tuesday through to Thursday.

An Emirates spokesperson said: "As routine with all new aircraft, we are looking at options for maintenance checks and any possible windows for using the A380 to train staff, as our delivery schedule dictates we receive another five this year.

"Schedule changes are being considered from January 27-29 - these would affect very few flights and would be temporary in nature."

Emirates declined to answer whether the A380 will be grounded during this period.

Emirates received delivery of its first double-decker A380 aircraft last July.

The world’s biggest commercial passenger plane was deployed on the airline’s Dubai-New York service on Aug.1

The carrier operates two daily flights from Dubai to JFK Airport, New York, one of which is carried out using the A380.
