The case of the $140 bathrobe...

So just out of curiosity I wondered what rates would be like for concierge level rooms now that the lounges aren't open on the weekend.

Checking out the Manhattan Beach Marriott, the CL rate is $279 whether during the week or on the weekend (using this Thurs only & Fri only for the experiment). Reg guest room rate is $249.

So during the week you get all the offerings of the lounge + room for $279. On the weekend you don't get all the offerings, so the only difference between a regular room & a CL room on the weekend is the bathrobe that comes with CL room (which you don't get to keep).

So you can book a reg room for $139 or a CL room for $279 on the weekend. That's a pretty pricey bathrobe

Now, only a nimrod would book the $279 if the $139 was available, but if someone hadn't checked the rate rules which really gets into the nitty-gritty of everything being closed, they could be a bit surprised/unhappy if they booked the CL thinking they were getting those things. Yeah, yeah, I know - it's up to people to read the fine print.

But you'd think the hotel would discount the CL rate a bit since it's only a bathrobe

The experiment was not to pick on this particular property, btw. Just checking in general. I might try it with a European property as well to see what the delta is there.

Cheers.
