But the cabin crew and sometimes even someone from the flight deck will all join in and sing you a rousing version of "Happy Birthday to You", first in French and then in English, it's quite fun. There may even be some dancing if your Chief Purser is in the mood.

There is a small fee for all the festivities, and they charge a certain number of miles depending on your class of service (it's called "Birthday Prime" in the FB booklet and on the web site). It's currently 10 000 miles in Y, 15 000 in J and 20 000 in P ... but that will go up on April 1 to 20 000 in J and 100 000 in P, so you're lucky you're doing it now!

P.S. And if you believe a word of what I have written, I should be working for Flying Blue.
This is a wonderful post!
A real story now. Two months go I was flying with my beloved wife HongKong-Tokyo on CX F. This is an intra-Asian flight. I am BA emerald, not CX Diamond. My wife mentioned to the FA that it was our 30th wedding anniversary. They could not give me better champagne than the Krug and Kaseiki meal they were serving. But before landing the purser brought us a "happy anniversary" card signed by every single member of the crew (from pilot down) and a box of praline chocolate nicely packed. These was probably a spare box of the delicious chocolates they offer in C & F. Anyway a wonderful gesture. Naughty as we are, we did the same trick on the way back and got the same treatment from a different crew (so it must be standard CX procedure). Were not lying too much as the exact date was in-between the two flights.
