Well, if UA's RCC is the yardstick by which lounges are compared, then the TG-J lounges are paradise! Yet, go look at the CX, SQ, MH, QF lounges on their home turf and you will realize that good food is the norm, not the exception. Even in North America, the AC lounges are pretty good and nothing is as awful as the usual UA (and to a lesser extent, AA) lounge.

I doubt if there are people who go 5-hours prior simply to sample the lounges, but just as others have mentioned, the very nature of BKK airport means that some long waits are inevitable.

Also, even if Y passengers use the TG lounges due to their *G cards, you can bet that TG bills the *G airline for use of their lounge. So TG does not give it away free, ergo they can well improve their standards somewhat.
