I had a simple RT JFK-SFO-JFK this week and the balance of yin and yang was apparent! Read on..
Weds morning - Booked on 7am United ps flight to SFO. Awake to moderate snow. Make it to airport in record time, and my friends from GS offer me an EARLIER flight! I board, happily upgraded, and prepare for my flight. FWIW, no gate lice in sight! My seatmate was fantastic; an articulate, attractive young lady with whom I laughed the entire flight. The crew, however, was so-so, not good, but not bad either. Gave my typical box of candy to the crew and they were appreciative. The one major issue was the loss of power coupled with what felt like a fried laptop following the power issue. The laptop issue was repairable later. So there was good and bad on the flight. Yin and yang on the flight. More yin than yang? Yes
Sat morning (today) - Booked on the first flight back to JFK, weather good, airport empty. Make it to airport in time to relax in Westin area of RCC in SFO and then go to gate. Hoards of gate lice despite a relatively empty flight. I proceed to my seat (9C) to find my seatmate standing, organizing his papers, etc, with many of them on my seat. I wait a bit and then indicate that I want to sit down. He tells me to hold on and proceeds to ignore the fact that I am waiting and others are boarding. Finally I offer to move the stuff myself and he takes that hint and clears my seat. Provides me with a continuous dose of attitude for the entire flight. Thankfully the flight was fast, and we arrived 40 minutes early. On board, I gave the crew their chocolates and they were over the top appreciative, to the point that others in the cabin were looking at the fawning. Yeah, I liked it! I got one of the few (10) personal video players that were loaded. Others suffered without. And when it was time to deplane, the FAs gave me a nice parting gift. More yin than yang? Not this time...equally balanced.
Do others see this type of balance on flights or am I just overly OCD and look too deeply at this stuff?
