Just to update this thread in case anyone finds it on a search. It is not possible to do anything during an AYQ transit. Your only option would be to hire a car, but the queues are nasty so you'd want to be first off the plane.

Otherwise, you can enjoy the blowflies.... Never seen so many flies in all my life. They attack you the moment you exit the airport
