My company did the same thing! I called to book eight tickets on Tuesday (the day of the announcement) and my travel agent told me that she could no longer book US until further notice. As a result, I was forced to book on Continental and Delta. Even if they reverse the decision (which seems likely at this point), look at the revenue they've lost. We have over 2,000 employees who travel frequently for business-most on US since it's our "hometown" airline-and probably a third of which are elite! This decision has been the main topic around the water fountains all week. We are furious. I've already fired off a letter to Consumer Affairs, which I'm sure I'll get a canned response to. I'll let you know.....
