I remember when they used to block the seats next to you. They stopped doing it when they implemented the kiosks and allowed people to choose their seat online.

In the past, the system used to automatically block the seat next to an EXP (maybbe PLTs too). That was a few years ago, about 3 years ago they stopped doing this and they will not do so even if you ask. Some AC agents will call down to the gate and ask that the seat not be assigned, but it requires some work.
