It depends on who's staffing the desk at the front of the waiting area. You could always try to figure out which track arriving passengers are coming from and just make your way down there (via the middle level under the big status board, if necessary). There usually won't be anyone to stop you, and the train doors remain open for the duration of the layover.
Thanks for the response. Yes, accessing the tracks via the middle level is my preferred technique; I've never had a problem doing so.
