When I returned fro Brazil, I had 8 bottles of cachaça with me in my luggage. They were about $5 each in Brazil and I declared them all on my form at IAH... I think I was allowed 2 before paying duties. The guy looked over my form very carefully (which also had clothes, and other gifts which I bought down there), looked at me and said "keep going." In all, I think I had about $300 worth of stuff and was more than prepared to pay the few bucks in duties on the cheap liquor, but that guy obviously didn't care about it.
